Politics: The Spectators Poll

Chu The Cud / October 23, 2026

At what point did we stop using polls to understand public opinion and start using public opinion to manufacture the next news story?

A poll is released. Analysts interpret it. Commentators argue over the interpretation. Then another poll is conducted to measure whether public opinion has changed.

And the cycle begins again.

Polling has gone from being a tool for measuring public opinion to becoming part of the political entertainment industry itself.

An industry within an industry, feeding another industry.

Politics has become a spectator sport, where the coverage of public opinion often receives more attention than the policies we’re supposedly forming opinions about.

Are we measuring public opinion, or manufacturing the conversation around it?
