Cities and states are opposing the construction of data centers, often citing fears of environmental destruction.
But how many people protesting actually understand what a data center does, how it operates, or what its environmental impact might be?
How much do we really know, beyond what the people yelling the loudest are telling us?
Environmental concerns deserve serious consideration. But concerns should be supported by facts, not simply amplified by fear.
We live in a world increasingly dependent on technology, yet we protest the very infrastructure that makes that technology possible.
You cannot continually reject the infrastructure that supports modern life while demanding uninterrupted access to its benefits.
If you’re unwilling to support the infrastructure that powers your digital world, why should someone else’s community shoulder that responsibility for you?
You cannot demand the benefits of progress while refusing to accept the responsibilities that come with it.
