A tip of the hat

There was a time when respect wasn’t measured by words alone, it was demonstrated through everyday actions. A gentleman removed his hat when being introduced to a woman, while engaged in conversation with her, or upon entering her home or another private space.

If he simply passed her on the street, he tipped the brim of his hat as a quiet gesture of courtesy and acknowledgment. These traditions weren’t about weakness or inequality; they were outward expressions of respect, humility, and good character. As many of these simple customs have faded, so too has a visible reminder that civility and consideration once played a greater role in everyday life.

What does the loss of civility and distinction say about today’s culture?
