Ode to the Young

If life teaches us anything, as we are lucky enough to keep living, it is this, do not take anything for granted.

The young cannot know the depth of that truth.

They wear their five senses like armor, believing they will never dull.

But time does its work.

The food once rich with delight, becomes forbidden.

The long walk you never thought twice about, now asks for rest.

The once sharp vision, softens to a yellowish blur around the edges.

Muscles that healed overnight, groan for days before they forgive you.

This is not a lament.

It is a warning, a quiet beacon in the fog.

Enjoy everything while it is yours.

Take a moment to give thanks.

Care for the body that carries you.

Youth is reckless, thinking decline belongs to others.

But the fire that burns fast, also burns out.

So choose to slow down, not to be forced to stop.

Moderation is not a chain, it is a compass. It lets you travel farther, see clearer, taste longer, and live more.

For you are the conductor, and the pace is yours to set.

So, take time to stand in the quiet after the last note of a song.
